In the normal course of an investigation in the State of Washington, there are usually no triggers or notifications that would alert someone to an inquiry. When notifications are present, the investigator avoids using those sources of information. Each state has their own rules. For example, in the State of California, DMV inquiries do trigger a notification to the party who is the subject of the search.
